The goal of educational therapy is more than academic success. By focusing on the strengthening of foundational cognitive skills, rather than simply academic skills, educational therapy enhances the ability to learn, creating life-long, independent learners. After identifying and assessing weak cognitive functions, the educational therapist forms a specifically designed program to pinpoint and develop those weaker areas, while strengthening cognition as a whole, making learning more efficient and effective. The role of an educational therapist is not to “teach” the student what he needs to know, but rather “lead” the student to learn for himself and then together explore and reinforce the process of learning.
